The Vision

I first entered the NewYork City Board of Education as a special education paraprofessional for autistic middle school students in the Inclusion program. The Inclusion program is where autistic students are merged into the General education population.  This was definitely a learning curve, to say the least. Helping my students with social skills, as well as academics, while being in the General education environment was a challenging balancing act, but rewarding.  Recently, I had the pleasure of running into one of my boy's mother who told me he is attending Manhattan College. We both had tears in our eyes as we knew the difficult journey he had.  With more than 12 years experience in the New York City Board of Education as an Educator, Reading Interventionist and Tutor, I have had plenty of these experiences, and do not take them any of them for granted.

I have learned the significance of making children active participants in their learning which breeds INDEPENDENCE and CONFIDENCE. Incorporating their interests and hobbies works wonders in keeping them ENGAGED and DESIRING to learn. My passion is instilling that confidence into struggling readers and writers, and having them recognize their POTENTIAL through learning strategies that foster independence. Trust is the glue that keeps relationships together in the classroom, and the tutor/child relationship is not an exception. My children trust me to always pull out the best in them and except them to give their best.

I have a Bachelor of Science in English Education from City College of New York. As well as a Masters in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages K-12th grade.) from Lehman College. I am a certified NYC Board of Education teacher, and currently teach middle school English/Enl classes.
